A man was airlifted to the hospital and is in serious condition after a car collided into his motorcycle.

On Monday around 3:00 p.m., the Ulster Police Department responded to an accident on State Route 28 near the speedway gas station.

Police say their investigation revealed that Jean M. Tierney, 51, of West Hurley was driving a 2011 Jeep in left lane on Route 28. At the same time, 50-year-old Roberto Gottardello, of Shokan was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the right lane.

Tierney began to change lanes, into the right lane, when a car in front of her was attempting to turn left into the Speedway gas station. As Tierney’s vehicle entered the right drive lane, she collided with Gottarello’s motorcycle.

Gottardello complained of chest pains at the scene of the crash. He was transported by Mobile Life Support Ambulance to the New York State Police Barracks on State Route 209 then flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Tierney and her two passengers reported no injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. At this time no tickets have been issued.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted at the crash scene by the Ulster Hose Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Ambulance, the New York State Police, and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.
