A 54 year old Port Jervis mother and her 20 year old son, both suspected of a number of thefts, were arrested Monday...but only after the son jumped the Delaware River Bridge in an effort to flee police.

From the Pocono Record

Eastern Pike Regional Police had been investigating a number of thefts from Wal-Mart in Westfall Township and were on the lookout for a red Honda Civic with New York plates that had been captured on video surveillance.

Police say the stolen goods were being sold at an area pawn shop. Authorities pulled over a vehicle matching the description. The mother, Carol Baran was taken into custody. Things escalated when police attempted to take son, Brian into custody...

A police officer put handcuffs on Brian Baran, securing his hands behind his back. The officer was about to put him in the squad car but Baran broke away and jumped over a barrier that separates the bridge road deck from the sidewalk. He then hurled his body over the bridge railing and jumped into the Delaware River below.
