He just wanted to prove himself to everyone. Of course, setting your rug on fire is probably not the best way to prove a point.

KEYE is reporting that 20 year-old Scout Hodge was charged with arson after he set fire to a rug in an apartment Thursday.

Why? Police say Hodge wanted to prove he wasn't a "loser."

The whole debacle started when the Austin (TX) Police Department reportedly responded to a call of a disturbance between Hodge and his mother. According to the report filed, officers forced their way into the apartment after hearing the mother yell that he wouldn't let her answer the door.

When the fire department arrived, they found fire debris outside the apartment. According to police, the fire was set inside when Hodge burned a hat with a lighter. The hat was then placed on a rug. When the rug caught fire, Hodge moved it outside which caused damage to the building.

Hodge told investigators he was in his room and fell into a bad mood after watching a program about politics.

Police say Hodge was trying to make a political statement and let people know he is not a "loser."

Hodge is charged with arson, a state jail felony, as well as unlawful restraint.
