A major accident has caused substantial delays in Orange County on Wednesday morning.

WPDH traffic reporter, Nancy Reamy, says there are major backups on route 208 near Montgomery this morning due to a pretty bad accident. A Medevac helicopter was on the scene near Neelytown road responding to injuries.

Traffic continues to build in both directions of Route 208 heading from Maybrook and Montgomery. Those delays are also backing up onto portions of I-84 near exit 5.

Route 208 was closed for a short time while emergency crews responded to the accident. There are reports that the driver was ejected from the vehicle on impact and has been transported to the hospital by helicopter.

Neelytown road continues to be closed. Emergency personnel indicate that the road will continue to be shut down throughout the morning commute while an investigation takes place.  They are also reporting multiple people with injuries and one unconfirmed fatality.

We will keep you posted with more details as they are available.
