A Hudson Valley site that was once in contention to be one of New York's new casinos, now could see new life as a major regional sports complex. The Daily Freeman reports there is now a plan to redevelop the Nevele Hotel as a major sports hub for the region.

The proposal calls for the purchase of an additional 130 acres for sports fields on top of the existing 580 acres of the Nevele Resort. The $150 million project would mean building multiple regulation baseball fields with top of the line facilities, in addition to fields for soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and a winter season ice hockey rink. There would be 460 hotel rooms on site as well.

Michael Treanor who owns the property thinks this plan will do more for the community than the casino would have. Treanor says the facility will also include an outdoor park with a zip line, rock climbing, golf course and an indoor water park. There are approvals still needed and final investments need to be secured, but Treanor felt comfortable enough in the future of these two elements to take the project public.

Here's a blast from the past. A classic TV commercial for the Nevele from 1981.
