A Hudson Valley guide dog has made national headlines after jumping in front of a school bus to protect it's blind owner.

The Journal News reports that a seeing-eye dog named Figo sprung into action on Monday when a school bus didn't see his owner who was crossing the street. Audrey Stone suffered a broken ankle and elbow and three fractured ribs, but is grateful for her quick-thinking dog that many are calling a hero.

Figo threw himself at the oncoming bus when it became clear that it was going to hit his owner. Eyewitnesses said that the dog knew what it was doing, attempting to take the brunt of the hit from the bus by getting between the moving vehicle and the dog's owner.

The bus driver was transporting two kindergarten students and said that they didn't see Audrey Stone or her dog walking across the road. The driver was ticketed with not yielding to a pedestrian and taken off duty while an investigation into the incident takes place.

After sustaining some pretty bad injuries, the Journal News reports that Figo is "on the mend and doing extremely well."
