Local Man Killed By Forklift At Business He Owned

A Hudson Valley man was killed at his own business when he was pinned under a piece of equipment he was working on.

Joseph Giachinta, 58, was killed when he was pinned under a forklift he was performing maintenance on. The deadly incident happened Sunday morning at the business Giachinta owned, Mid-Hudson Concrete Products on Route 9 in Philipstown.

According to the Putnam Valley Sheriff's office, Gianchinta was working under the the forklift which was raised up and supported by a hoist and jack system. It's believed the lift and support system failed, causing the forklift to fall and pin the 58-year-old victim.

An employee of the company entered Mid-Hudson Concrete Products around 11 a.m. Sunday and found Gianchinta pinned and called 911. Sheriff’s deputies and emergency responders from the Philipstown Ambulance Corps, North Highland Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare Paramedic Services rushed to the scene. However Gianchinta was pronounced dead upon their arrival.

The Putnam County Coroner’s Office has ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
