This seems to be happening quite a bit recently from schools to now grocery stores. It all happened last Wednesday around 4:15 p.m. at the Hannaford store located in the Kingston Plaza.

According to the Daily Freeman, the store received a call warning a bomb was about to go off. Kingston officers and detectives searched the store for suspicious packages or items that could contain a bomb and found nothing unusual.

After some pretty savvy police work, Kristopher J. Surdis, was arrested by Kingston police and charged with falsely reporting an incident, a felony.

Kingston Police told the Daily Freeman that right after the bomb threat was made, Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer started to look at a different angle. He set his sites on Kris Surdis who has a history of falsely reporting incidents. In fact, Surdis was convicted in Ulster County Court of the same crime in December 2008 and was sentenced to six to seven years in state prison, plus five years of post-release supervision. He was released from prison on Dec. 22, 2014.

Officer Croizer told the Daily Freeman that he knew Surdis was back in jail, this time for a parole violation after a January shoplifting arrest at the Walmart store in the town of Ulster. So he immediately called the jail to see if Surdis had placed a call about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday and learned he had.

Surdis was arraigned in Kingston City Court and returned to the jail without bail.
