One of the Hudson Valley's largest hospitals is about to get a lot bigger, to the tune of $466 million.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports what could be the largest construction project ever in the City of Poughkeepsie is scheduled to break ground in the spring of 2016. Vassar Brothers Medical Center plans to build a 7 level pavilion with nearly 700,000 square feet of additional space.

The facility still awaits approvals from the state health department. If given the go-ahead, the building will have more than 260 rooms for patients and 30 critical care rooms. It will be located on the south end of their current campus and will be highly visible from Route 9.

Also included will be a new rooftop helipad, new operating rooms, new conference room and an additional 265 parking spaces.

But how will they pay for it? Vassar is expected to raise funds through donations and will fund the rest from private funds and bonds.

 "This historic undertaking will not only improve the quality of lives for county residents, but it will also mark Dutchess County as a leader in the region in patient care."
