Are you a fan of Captain America? Fan enough to dress up like the superhero? You probably wouldn't go that far unless it was for something special. Something like "Spirit Week" at school?

According to a social media post, Rondout Valley High School student Steven Snyder showed up at school on Monday to celebrate "Spirit Week" dressed as his favorite superhero, Captain America.

The costume was complete with all of Captain America's stuff, including an original World War II helmet, canteen, first aid pouch belt and suspenders.

While at school, Snyder, according to his sister's Facebook post, had some of the costume confiscated by school officials and, according to her, was harassed so much by school officials that he had to leave school on Monday.

She went on to say in her post that her brother is "a huge history buff, and Captain America is his favorite. He put a ton of work into making sure his outfit was pretty darn perfect and authentic."

She also said that

If Captain America is offensive to you, you should probably leave America

According to the Daily Freeman, Rondout Valley school district Superintendent Rosario Agostaro said that high school officials acted out of an abundance of caution when they confiscated the items. He said that in the past the school has received several anonymous threats and that school officials tend to operate on a heightened alert.

The confiscated items have been returned to Snyder and the superintendent plans to meet with the student and his family by the end of the week.
