Stories like this are tough to do. We found out yesterday the a local man was killed in Afghanistan on Sunday.

Sgt. Shawn Farrell, an infantryman with the 10th Mountain Division and a 2008 graduate of Rondout Valley High School, was shot twice Sunday. His mom told the Daily Freeman,

"As soon as he turned 17, he signed up and went in," his mother, Heather Stokes, told the Daily Freeman. "In his senior year, he served with the Army National Guard reserve unit in Bullville, and after he graduated, he went in to active duty in Fort Riley, Kan.”

Such a sad story. Sgt. Farrell is survived by his wife, Allison, who lives in Fort Drum; his parents; his stepfather, David Stokes; three brothers; two sisters; and other relatives.

Just for Shawn...
