If you think Fall hasn't arrived where you are, you may be surprised to find out that some areas of the Hudson Valley are close to peak color.

According to this week's official New York State foliage report (yes, that's a real thing) leaf peepers are seeing some significant color changes in our area, with more expected over the next couple of weeks. For those venturing out during the Columbus Day weekend of October 8-10, your best bet would be to hit Rockland County near Bear Mountain. Color changes in that area are expected to range from 45 to more than 60 percent.

Columbia County spotters are predicting a 35-55 percent change in color with muted yellows, oranges and deep reds, but still plenty of green to go.

Down in Rockland County the leaves are right at the midpoint, with 40 percent change and bright red, purple and yellow leaves overtaking the green.

As for the rest of the Mid Hudson Region, Orange County is hovering at 45 percent color going into the weekend, with mostly gold and yellow leaves just changing. Dutchess County is pretty far behind the rest of the region with only about 20 percent color change. The City of Poughkeepsie is even lower than that. The higher elevations may see more color, as well as areas up to the north of the county, but there is still a ways to go.

Westchester County seems to just be getting started this weekend, with only about 5 percent of leaves in transition.
