NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has said the league has banned Donald Sterling for life and fined him 2.5 millions dollars. Sterling has been under fire since audio surfaced of a conversation between him and a former girlfriend telling her not to be photographed or bring African Americans (including Magic Johnson, who was pictured with Sterling's ex-girlfriend in an Instagram pic) to any Los Angeles Clippers games. Sterling had been the owner of the franchise since 1981. Silver has said he will push or other NBA team owners to force the sale of the team.

"Effective immediately, I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers organization or the NBA," said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver during a news conference in New York.

"As part of the lifetime ban, Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, be present at any Clippers office or facility, or participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team. He will also be barred from attending NBA Board of Governors meetings and participating in any other league activity," said Silver.

Many former NBA stars including Michael Jordan, Kevin Johnson and Magic Johnson have spoken out against Sterling saying he should be forced out of the league for his hurtful comments

Sterling's own team protested his remarks by turning their warm ups inside out to hide the team logo
