In the modern day, many musicians and other celebrities have embraced social media as a way to connect with their fan base. But not Kirk Hammett. In a new interview, the Metallica guitarist discussed, in no uncertain terms, why he avoids all of the myriad Internet-based platforms open to him.

"Well personally, I don’t give a f--- about social media," he explained to Vice. "I’m not on Facebook, I’m not on Twitter, I’m not on Instagram, I’m not on all these other f---in’ things that I don’t even know about, and I don’t give a f---. I don’t care. I. Don’t. F---ing. Care."

Even though he's so emphatically avoiding tweets and status updates, Hammett doesn't entirely dismiss the need for that form of engagement, both for professional and political purposes. "But there are people in our organization who recognize the power of social media and the power of getting the word out there," he continued. "Social media can be extremely effective for whatever thing you’re doing or whatever cause so I think it’s important, but personally, I don’t give a f---."

So if you've been fruitlessly looking to find Hammett on Twitter or Facebook, it's not that he's hiding under a pseudonym. He's just simply not interested.
