Jose Reyes is returning to the Mets.

The Mets announced Saturday that they had signed the 33 year-old infielder to a minor league contract. He had been placed on waivers Thursday by the Colorado Rockies

Reyes reported to the Mets' Class A minor league affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones, on Sunday. Reyes went hitless at three at-bats in six innings, as Brooklyn defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 1-0. Reyes is scheduled to be in the lineup again Monday night as the Cyclones and the Renegades face off again.

Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson feels that Reyes will stay in the minors for about a week or so before rejoining the Mets. After Monday's game in Brooklyn, he'll more than likely report to Double-A Binghamton or Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets signed Reyes in 1999 out of the Dominican Republic. He spent nine seasons with the Mets, making five All-Star appearances, and winning the National League batting title in 2011

He left for Miami after the 2011 season, signing a six-year, $106 million contract.

Some have questioned his return to the organization.

Reyes was arrested October 31 after he allegedly chocked his wife, and then pushed her into a sliding-glass door at a hotel room. Reyes' wife did not cooperate with prosecutors, and a judge later dropped the domestic abuse charge in April 2016.

ESPN reports that Major League Baseball suspended Reyes without pay through May 31 for violating its domestic abuse policy.

He has since profusely apologized for the incident, saying it was a terrible mistake.
