On February 11, 2011, City of Poughkeepsie Police Officer John Falcone made the ultimate sacrifice. Plans are in the works to honor him with a Memorial Highway. State lawmakers are sending a bill to Governor Cuomo's desk to rename part of a Hudson Valley roadway in honor of a fallen Poughkeepsie police detective, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Detective John Falcone was shot and killed on the job in 2011 by a Lee Welch who had murdered his wife and later turned the gun on himself. Welch had also been with his three-year-old daughter at the time but didn't harm her.

The bill calls for renaming part of Route 9 in Dutchess County the "John M. Falcone Memorial Highway."
