With all the excitement surrounding the opening weekend of NFL Football some of you may have missed some other exciting sports news from around the Hudson Valley This weekend.

Let me back up by saying that I am one of those "horse chicks." I grew up riding and wishing that my horse and I would be champions one days. Fast forward to 2016 that didn't happen.

In the famous words of my trainer, "Paty you try twice as hard and get half as far."

So, needless to say, my professional equestrian career end shortly after college but that hasn't stopped me from loving horses and being part of the sport.

That's the cool thing about riding. There are lots of different disciplines (types of riding) and lots of levels of competition. So let's take a look at some of the results from this past weekend in the local equestrian scene. And remember this is just what I know about, I bet their are hundreds more winners I've missed in the blog.

On the international scene this past weekend, Jessica Springsteen (daughter of Bruce Springsteen) and her mount Cynar Va to home the win at the HITS Saugerties $1 Million Grand Prix. The pair proudly rode away Sunday with the blue ribbon and the prize money. Read More Here.

To get a feel for her talent watch Jessica's Win from 2014 American Gold Cup at Old Salem Farm in North Salem New York.

On a local level Centenary College Equestrian Center held the National PHA Finals this past weekend and local riders from stables all over the Hudson Valley rode away with ribbons.

Congratulations to riders, horses, ponies and trainers from Gardnertown Farm, Lucky C Stables, Willow Hill Farm, Grey Stone Stables and Sly Fox Farm. If you have a horse lover in you family be sure to check out these local barns to get them started.
