A Hudson Valley jail inmate has been charged with assaulting two corrections officers at the Putnam County Correctional Facility.

On February 8, 2016, Putnam County Correctional Facility staff contacted the Sheriff’s Department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation to report an assault of two Correction Officers by an inmate. The inmate was identified as 21-year-old Carlos H. Lopez.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s office, Lopez was homeless in the Village of Brewster at the time of his previous arrest. Lopez hasn’t been sentenced for a felony charge of criminal mischief in Brewster.

Lopez allegedly injured the Correction Officers while they were performing their duties in the Correctional Facility. He was charged with two counts of 2nd-degree assault, a felony.

Lopez was committed to the PCCF in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charges, the defendant could face up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.00 for each charge.

He continues to face up to four years in a prison and a fine of up to $5,000.00 for the felony charge for which he was originally incarcerated.
