According to reports, the Christie administration wants to close the Izod Center, after being part of the Meadowlands Sports Complex for 34 years.

There will be a meeting held on Thursday, where the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority is expected to approve a plan that will close the area that holds 18,000 people.

According to reports, any acts that are scheduled for February and March could potentially be moved to the Prudential Center in Newark.

Loss of revenue is a major factor in this decision, as well as sports franchises leaving the arena.

Everybody has seen a concert or a sporting event at this arena, and it is sad that it is likely to close.

The President of the sports authority said:

“Just about everyone in New Jersey and the region has great memories of big-name concerts, basketball or hockey games or other family entertainment at the arena.” He added: “Times have changed, however, and this should be viewed as a new opportunity for the entire Meadowlands entertainment complex, as interested parties - including the owners of American Dream Meadowlands - look at ways to rejuvenate and reintegrate the arena for optimal use, value and long-term success."
