An inspirational story about a local Hudson Valley man is part of a new late-night infomercial now airing across the country.

Hoveround, the makers of mobility devices such as "scooters" and motorized wheelchairs, visited the Hudson Valley to film portions of it's latest infomercial, including interviews with some of their local clients.

Poughkeepsie Resident, Ralph "Sonny" Murphy, is one of the Hoveround clients that provide testimonials during the long-form commercial. In an older video on their YouTube channel, Hoveround documents the story of how Murphy lost his leg and came to be a client.

According to the video, Murphy was shot in the back in 1994 and lost his ability to walk. During his recovery, Murphy says he decided not to let life pass him by, so he started coaching Pop Warner football. In the informercial, Murphy is shown wearing a Poughkeepsie Pioneers football jersey and coaching his young players on the field.

Murphy explains that he believes his purpose is to teach the players on his team not just about football, but about life. Family members and fellow Poughkeepsie Pop Warner supervisors are also interviewed about Murphy's story and how he's given back to the community.

In the latest infomercial, Murphy says "My Hoveround is an extension of my legs. Instead of running to where I've got to go I roll." Other scenes show the man working with the Poughkeepsie Pioneers and getting around in his mobility device.
