‘Independence Day’ Sequel Gets Green Light From Fox

Twentieth Century Fox has given the green light for the much anticipated Independence Day 2.

The green light puts the movie on track to hit its previously announced release on June 24 2016. That would be almost exactly 20 years from when the first hit theaters (July 1996).

The studio is aiming to start production this May. They are still finalizing a deal with a director, and some additional casting still needs to be done.

Will Smith will not be appearing in the sequel as previously reported.

The original 'Independence Day' earned over $817 million worldwide.
