According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, early last week 54-year-old Michael Cerilli of Hyde Park went to the Hyde Park Police to ask for gun locks. A seemingly simple and responsible request -- that is until further investigation.

Hyde Park Police Detectives discovered Mr. Cerilli is a convicted felon and under federal law is prohibited from owning firearms. The Poughkeepsie Journal reported police wanted to look further into why the Hyde Park man was looking for gun locks:

Police interviewed Cerilli at his home and discovered he "was in possession of (seven) long guns including an assault rifle," police said, and Cerilli became "combative" when police tried to arrest him.

According to the Hyde Park Police Department, Mr. Cerilli is currently at the Dutchess County Jail without bail because of his previous felony convictions.
