An 83-year-old was arrested after police say he hit two pedestrians and left the scene.

Howard Kaplowitz of Washingtonville allegedly hit a 71-year-old man and his 66-year-old wife on Monday. According to The Times Herald Record, a witness claims they saw Kaplowitz drive away after striking the pedestrians.

The good Samaritan sprung into action and followed the car until the driver stopped at Dunkin Donuts. The witness then positioned their car,  blocking Kaplowitz inside until police could arrive on the scene.

Washingtonville police say they have evidence from security cameras that show the driver striking the pedestrians and then leaving the scene of the accident. Kaplowitz has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident and is scheduled to appear in court on November 9.

Meanwhile, the victims were both transported to St. Luke's Hospital where they were both treated for leg injuries.

Last month an 86-year-old driver killed a Newburgh man who was doing yard work in front of his home. That driver also failed to stop and was later brought back to the scene by his son-in-law. Police did not press any charges against the driver in that case.
