Two brothers from Sullivan County are facing second-degree robbery charges after beating a man and stealing $20 in cash.

On July, 19, 2018 Sullivan County Sheriff's received a report of an assault and robbery that occurred on July, 18 at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the Glen Wild section of the Town of Fallburg.

It was reported that a subject was giving two men a ride home, when a dispute ensued. The two men beat the driver and stole $20 in cash from him.

The victim was treated at Catskill Regional Medical Center, and transferred to Orange Regional Medical Center.

Detectives quickly identified the men as brothers Steven Schmitz, 24, and Sheldon Schmitz, age 19, both of Glen Wild, N.Y.

Steven Schmitz was spotted coming out of a convenience store on July 24 and was taken into custody without incident.

Sheldon Schmitz was seen walking down the sidewalk in the Village of Liberty on July 25, and when he was ordered to stop he took off running. He was eventually apprehended, and turned over to the Sheriff's Office.

Both men were arraigned in the Fallsburg Court and remanded to Sullivan County Jail on $50,000 bail each.
