A local brewery is making headlines after adding two simple words to the date code on the bottom of each can.

Newburgh Brewing Company is no stranger to national exposure. In just four years, the brewery has won national awards for both its beer and its packaging. Newburgh Cream Ale, the brewery's flagship beer, has won medals at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, and was the champion in CNBC's contest for America's Best Loved Beer Label.

Now, Newburgh Brewing Company is making even more headlines after it was revealed that cans of their Cream Ale were date coded with an extra message supporting the Mets:

The press has been having a field day with the discovery. National news outlets such as CBS Sports and USA Today have been publishing articles and social media posts about the quirky packaging idea. As for the fans of Newburgh Brewing that also happen to support the Yankees, well they've been a bit conflicted over the message, with some on Instagram and Facebook showing their displeasure with the brewery's decision to back the Mets.

Some of the funnier comments include Facebook user Matthew Wright who said "You're reaching the Mets core demographic- drunks who have hit bottom."  Antonio J Vinciguerra has figured a way to enjoy the beer without supporting the Mets. His answer? "I am going to have to fill my growler instead..."

Timothy Malcom probably had the best response, warning "You should inform everyone that batch will go bad in mid September"

What do you think about Newburgh Brewing Company's support of the Mets? Will it make you more or less likely to drink some Cream Ale while watching the game? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page or in the comments section below.
