An Ulster County woman has been accused of sending death threats through email to her roommate.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, Linda Cass, of Marlborough, sent the aggressive emails to try and extort $ 9,000 from her male roommate. The 51-year-old was arrested by Town of Malborough police on Tuesday.

The arrest was the conclusion of a six-month investigation that started when a Marlborough man told police he received life threatening emails from an unknown person.

The emails claimed to be from a member of an organized crime group and said they would induce physical harm and even death in an attempt to extort $9,000.

Police seized computers from the home on Monday and later determined the threatening emails were coming from the victim’s roommates. The relationship between the roommates is unknown.

The roommate, Cass, received multiple felony charges, including second-degree grand larceny by extortion, third-degree grand larceny, second-degree stalking as a hate crime and second-degree aggravated harassment.

Cass was arraigned in Marlborough town court and sent to Ulster County Jail. Her bond was set at $40,000 or $20,000 cash.
