A Hudson Valley Walmart location was evacuated after three fire departments responded to a call reporting fire.

Just before 4pm on Tuesday members of the Circleville, Silverlake and Mechanicsville fire departments responded to an emergency call at the Walmart located in the Orange Plaza on Route 211 in Middletown.

HVNN reports that employees smelled smoke outside of one of the store's offices, causing them to believe the building was on fire. Emergency personnel were called and all employees and customers were evacuated the store.  After an hour it was determined that there was no fire. The odor was said to have come from a faulty ventilation unit.

It's easy to understand how workers in the Hudson Valley might be extra cautious when it comes to the smell of smoke. Just last week the Gap distribution center in Fishkill was set ablaze by what police are now calling an act of arson. The fire quickly enveloped the building, leaving hundreds of workers wondering about the future of their jobs.

Customers were eventually let back into the Middletown Walmart on Tuesday. There were no injuries or damages reported due to the incident.
