A 78-foot Hudson Valley Norway Spruce will be cut down this Wednesday and moved to Manhattan to become this year's Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

According to a press release, this year, America's most famous Christmas tree will be supplied by Albert Asendorf and Nancy Puchalski of Gardiner, New York. The impressive tree is over 7 stories tall, weighs 10 tons and measures 47 feet in diameter.

The tree will be taken down on Wednesday and lifted by an enormous crane onto a 115 foot long trailer. After that, the tree will travel to Manhattan by flatbed truck so it can be erected at Rockefeller Center on Friday. Decorations and lights will be added by workers on scaffolding before the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony which takes place on Wednesday, December 2.

This Google Street View photo of the owners' address shows a tree that is likely to be the one that will be cut down.

In years past, the owners of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree have been invited as special guests for the lighting ceremony which is broadcast live on NBC. The last tree to come from our area was in 2010, when a Norway Spruce from Mahopac was selected for the honor. Before that, the 2004 tree came from a home in Suffern, New York.

Are you excited to hear that this year's Rockefeller Christmas Tree is from our area? Will you be visiting it in Manhattan this holiday season?
