Hudson Valley Towns Could Get Money for Trees and Green Spaces

How do you think your town looks? Does it have enough open spaces to enjoy, are there plenty of trees for shade as well as just looking good? How about your local school or community college campus? Are they looking pretty good? If the answer is no, you might want to let the your town's leaders or school officials know about this grant program.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting applications for Urban Forestry grants that would provide money to enhance landscape projects and provide green spaces in urban areas. This year, they are looking to invest $2.3 million in tree planting, maintenance grants, and community forestry management plans.

So, who can apply? Municipalities, public authorities, school districts, community colleges, not-for-profit organizations, and public benefit corporations. Awards could range from $11,000 to $75,000 depending on the size of the community.
