On Monday, one Hudson Valley town took a step forward in support of the medical marijuana business.

The Times Herald Record reports the Newburgh Town Board was presented plans for two potential growers. Both organizations, Medigro Organic and Hudson Health Extracts have to get their applications to state regulators by Friday.

Five total growers will be selected statewide, each permitted four dispensaries. A decision isn't expected to be made until later this summer.

Could the medical marijuana trade turn Newburgh's fortunes around? There certainly will be jobs created by whomever is chosen. Newburgh can use all the help it can get, a Russian TV program recently documented the area's decline.
