Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the distribution of the license fee revenue from Upstate casinos and the Hudson Valley will be getting a big chunk of change.

Gaming in the state of New York remains controversial, but it seems like there will be some pretty significant benefits for those of us who live in the Valley. According to Cuomo's press release, the Catskills/Hudson Valley will receive $10.2 million. The Town of Thompson and Sullivan County will each receive $2,550,000 for their roles as Montreign Resort Casino's host municipality and county, respectively. The following counties share another $5.1 million:

  • Columbia County: $317,631
  • Delaware County: $241,536
  • Dutchess County: $1,497,583
  • Greene County: $247,783
  • Orange County: $1,876,777
  • Ulster County: $918,687

The remaining $40.8 million is being distributed to public schools as part of the state’s education formula.

"Gov. Cuomo has demonstrated that smart gaming policy helps the entire state. With these funds, Governor Cuomo has fulfilled an important commitment he made with the passage of the Upstate New York Gaming and Economic Development Act," New York State Association of Counties Executive Director Stephen Acquario said. "Millions of dollars in casino license fees are a much-needed benefit to upstate communities, and we are grateful for the support."

Do you favor casinos in New York? Or is there too big of a social price to pay to make the money worth it?
