Senator Sue Serino from Hyde Park is fresh from victory after her feminine hygiene legislation gains unanimous support.

Serino, a Republican Senator from Hyde Park, introduced a bill into the New York State Senate that would abolish sales tax on feminine hygiene products. First proposed in February, support for the bill immediately started flowing in. But unanimous support did not come until it was recently amended to include tampons and sanitary pads.

On April 11, Serino announced that the bill passed unanimously in the Senate. In a statement included with her press release, the State Senator said,

To consider that we exempt cupcakes and circus performances from the sales tax in New York State, but not sanitary napkins and tampons—products women depend on—is beyond comprehension,

Serino went on to add that there has been a "groundswell of support" for the legislation and the unanimous vote sends a "strong message" to the women of New York that instead of being strung along, they are being heard loud and clear.

Neighboring states, such as Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, have already pulled the plug on tampon taxes.

What do you think about the legislation? Do you think that removing taxes on feminine hygiene products is long overdue?
