A Hudson Valley school bus driver had a revoked license when he was pulled over Friday, Sgt. Peter Dunn of the Rhinebeck Police Department said.

No students were on board the Allways East Transportation bus when Abdul W. Holmes, 40, of Mount Vernon was stopped. However, it wasn't immediately clear if any Rhinebeck High School students had been on the bus Friday morning when police received a complaint about the bus driving erratically, according to Dunn.

Holmes was charged with aggravated unlicensed driving, unlicensed driving and driving out of class, specifically without the license required to operate a school bus.

Rhinebeck Central School District officials were informed of the driver's arrest, he said.

"It's up to the bus company to make sure people are in compliance. It's on the company, not on the school," Dunn said.

Allways East Transportation of Yonkers was awarded an annual contract for Rhinebeck Central School District, Spackenkill Union Free School District and Dutchess County BOCES in August 2015, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported. This is the first year the company has operated for these districts.

Rhinebeck School District Manager Tom Burnell told the Daily Freeman news of the arrest was a cause for "great concern" for the district. Holmes was a substitute driver for the company, so his driving record information was not made available to the district, according to the report.

Holmes is scheduled to appear in the Village of Rhinebeck Court on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
