Crews were busy on Monday morning taking down the iconic green and white signage from the Poughkeepsie Hess Express on Route 9 and replacing it with a new company's logo.

That's right, Hess has seen its final days in the Hudson Valley and will soon be replaced by Speedway. Owned by Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Speedway announced the acquisition of 1200 Hess stations last May in a deal that expanded their presence from nine states in the midwest to 22 nationwide.

The Hudson Valley is the latest market to see their old Hess stores transformed into Speedway stations. Gone are the green and white Hess pumps, replaced by the signature red and white logo of Speedway.

CSPnet.com reported on a 2014 earnings call from Marathon Petroleum where CEO Garry R. Herninger said this about the transition of the individual Hess Express locations:

The comprehensive transition for each store not only includes the changing of signs and canopies, but it's a complete system changeover, which includes the backoffice, point-of-sale and inventory control systems, as well as integration of the Speedy Rewards Loyalty Program.

The Saratogian quotes a representative from Marathon Petroleum who emphasizes all Hess employees will remain at each newly transformed Speedway location. Although ownership has changed, the staff is expected to remain the same at all of the local Hudson Valley gas stations.

Thanks to their acquisition of Hess, Speedway is now the number one convenience store operator in the eastern U.S. by number of owned and operated gas stations.

Have you visited a Speedway yet? We want to know what you think. Do you like them better than Hess or not?
