A number of high-tech jobs, that almost went to Connecticut, are staying in the Hudson Valley.

Spectral Systems LLC in Hopewell Junction, a manufacturer of precision infrared optics is staying in the Hudson Valley thanks to a collaboration between industry and government agencies. The firm had considered consolidating their specialized manufacturing firm to their Connecticut location until Dutchess County Assistant County Executive Ron Hicks stepped in to help.

Hicks put Spectral Systems LLC in touch with T-SEC, a non-profit group of local industry executives working to revive the regional manufacturing industry and keeping the high-tech jobs in the Hudson Valley.

T-SEC arranged for the purchase of ultra-specialized equipment that will help Spectral improve their product line and possibly expand into other competitive markets.

This is a great example of our Think Dutchess Alliance for Business working together to expand our high-tech economy, Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro stated. "This project retains and creates jobs, and provides regional businesses and students access to high-tech equipment.”

Spectral Systems LLC and T-SEC will work with Dutchess Community College (DCC) as part of T-SEC's SMARTT Lab Program to utilize the equipment, provide hand on research and training opportunities, including internships for DCC students. SMARTT Labs make manufacturing equipment available for use on a first come, first served basis by manufacturers, students, and faculty. T-SEC recently worked with DCC to create a fit-up metrology test lab with funding from the SUNY 2020 program.
