A New York State police officer with ties to the Hudson Valley was killed in the line of duty.

On Tuesday around 7:45 a.m., trooper Jeremy J. VanNostrand, 36, was reporting to work at the State Police barracks in Fonda when he was involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Trooper VanNostrand was stopped in traffic in his personal vehicle, waiting to turn into the station, when he was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic, police say.

VanNostrand was taken to Albany Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

In a press release, New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II said he was "saddened to announce the line of duty death of Trooper Jeremy J. VanNostrand."

He's been working with the New York State Police for six years. He served in Troop F Middletown and Liberty before transferring to Troop G.

Trooper VanNostrand is survived by his wife, their daughter, his parents and brothers.
