Listeners are reporting that many landlines in our area are not working. Calls are either going to a busy signal or getting an "all circuits are busy" message.

On Twitter, a few local businesses have posted that their phones are not working.

The City of Poughkeepsie police have posted this message on their website:

Verizon is currently experiencing technical difficulties with their phone lines and are working to solve the problem. Land lines and some cell phones are experiencing connection problems in Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Rockland and Putnam Counties.

They warn that if you dial your local seven digit number for police, fire or ambulance services, you may not get through. If you cannot contact your local emergency response personnel they suggest calling 911 for assistance.

Right now, Verizon Support says that they are unaware of any problems. We will update this page if we get any further information.

If you are having phone problems, please let us know so we can see how widespread the outage is.
