The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is staffed with a full complement of professional, public service employees dedicated to the efficient delivery of health care services to this population. Some facilities offer 24-hour nursing services and on-staff physicians to provide for the inmate-patient medical needs. Some have on-site pharmacy and ancillary departments which include dental, dietary, and x-ray as well as physical, occupational and recreational therapies.

Our Mission:To promote, restore and maintain the health of incarcerated individuals in the New York State Correctional facilities.

Nursing In Correctional Facilities

Correctional Nurses function as members of a treatment team. The common goal is to provide the community standard of care to our incarcerated patients. This includes health care, patient teaching, and provision of supportive care. Nurses also participate in staff training, prepare clinical and administrative reports, and maintain infection control standards. As the primary caregivers, the Correctional medical team has a rewarding role, and work collaboratively to achieve high standards of care.
