The 2017 NFL Draft is about a month from now.

Hundreds upon hundreds of young hopefuls will anxiously wait over the course of three days to hear their name called. Some unfortunately, never will.

This year, there is one local star who's looking to make the giant leap to the pros. If you haven't already heard of Mikal Myers, then you might very soon.

The 2012 Newburgh Free Academy graduate recently worked out for the New England Patriots. According to the Times Herald, Myers has also attracted the attention of the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Myers is a powerful 6 foot, 336 pound defensive tackle who recently finished his senior season at the University of Connecticut,

I think I have a good chance. think I'll be able to get an opportunity and I just have to try my best, see what happens from there and put my best foot forward. I've been playing since I was 5. I probably wanted to play for the Giants then.

According to the UCONN athletics page, Myers started all 12 games his senior year, where he finished with 51 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

While a senior at NFA, Myers was named a first team Class AA selection on the offensive line by the New York Sportswriters Association.

Even if he isn't drafted in April, Myers hopes to sign with an NFL team as a free agent. Wish him the best of luck.
