The Hudson Valley has earned the honor of being named among the most artistic areas in America. The Matador Network determined America's most artistic communities using a few key criteria:

  • Strong community of artists, musicians and filmmakers.
  • Good quality of life and a relativity low cost.
  • Small scene (No NYC or LA).

Among the artistic standouts mentioned, Dia:Beacon and Basillica Hudson were mentioned as prime examples of old factories reinvented as space for creativity to flourish. Here's a look at the top 5, link up with Matador to view the full list.

  1. San Juan, Puerto Rico
  2. Pasadena, California
  3. Jackson, Mississippi
  4. Taos, New Mexico
  5. Hudson Valley, New York

Artists seeking refuge from life in the big city are finding a home in the Hudson Valley.

Earlier this year we had a chance to speak with Melissa Auf De Maur, former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist, who found Basillica Hudson.
