A Hudson Valley woman thought she was doing a good deed by allowing a man to temporarily stay at her home. That was until he allegedly stole the woman’s daughter’s jewelry and credit card.

Shawnee S. Riley, 20, of Saugerties was arrested on Friday following a investigation by the Saugerties police detective division into the theft of jewelry and a credit card from a Saugerties resident.

The homeowner discovered several pieces of jewelry were stolen along with her daughter’s credit card.

Riley, who was temporarily living at the victim’s home, brought the stolen jewelry to a Saugerties Antique store in the Village of Saugerties and was paid over $500, police say.

Riley is also accused for making unauthorized purchases with the stolen credit card. He was charged with grand larceny, a felony and criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor.

Riley was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Saugerties Village Court to answer his charges on June 26.
