Warwick firefighters rescued a local man from a submerged car Saturday. The Times Herald Record reports the 28 year old man was taken to St. Anthony Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The unidentified man was found just after noon in Wawayanda Creek after a concerned citizen noticed the situation from the road. After he was rescued, a search of the area resulted in no other victims being found. The 2006 Toyota Solara was removed from the creek shortly thereafter.

Lieutenant John Rader from the Town of Warwick police department was unaware how the car ended up submerged or how long it had been in the water. Anyone with information should contact Warwick police at (845) 986-5000.

What should you do if you're ever trapped in a car that's sinking? According to Popular Mechanics, you're best off unbuckling your seat belt first. Do not open the door, this will let too much water in. Instead, open the window and break it if you can't. You'll have anywhere between 30 seconds to one minute to exit the car. So don't drive into any large bodies of water and you'll be just fine.
