A Hudson Valley man who fatally shot a man he was involved in a long running dispute with will serve many years behind bars.

In Westchester County Court 26-year-old Pedro Delacruz, of Yonkers was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the shooting death of Victor Fitzgerald.

In April, Delacruz was found guilty of murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, On July 21, 2013, Yonkers Police responded to a report of multiple gunshots being fired and a man being down in a parking lot behind 80 Riverdale Avenue.

Responding officers found Fitzgerald lying on the ground unresponsive. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. He died from internal injuries and massive bleeding.

The Yonkers Police Department says Delacruz approached Fitzgerald on a walkway between 80 and 100 Riverdale Avenue in Yonkers and shot the victim twice, striking him in the chest and the lower back.

Delacruz was remand to the custody of the New York State Corrections Department.
