A Hudson Valley man admitted that he was driving high when he caused a head-on crash that seriously injured a local man and his infant daughter.

On Tuesday in Ulster County Court, 34-year-old Kevin Coyle of Gardiner pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular assault.

On June 7, 2015, Coyle was driving on Route 44/55 in the town of Gardiner while impaired by marihuana and oxycodone. During his drive, Coyle’s vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and collided head on with a vehicle in the oncoming lane of traffic.

As a result of this collision, the occupants of the other vehicle, a 36-year old Gardiner man and his 1-year-old daughter, both suffered serious injuries.

The infant, who was secured in a rear facing car seat at the time of the crash, is still recovering and receiving treatment after fracturing her skull, officials say.

A person who was driving behind Coyle, told officials that Coyle was driving erratically for many miles and crossed over the double yellow lines multiple times, before causing the head-on crash.

Coyle is scheduled to be sentenced on August 22.
