Hudson Valley Man Guilty of Creating Bomb Threat at Supermarket From Jail

A Hudson Valley man plead guilty into phoning in a bomb threat to a local supermarket from jail.

In Ulster County Court, Kristofer J. Surdis, 43, of Glenford plead guilty to one count of 1st-degree falsely reporting an incident, a class D felony.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, the Hannaford Supermarket in the Kingston Plaza received a call on May 6, saying a bomb was about to go off in the store.

Police searched the location but did not find a bomb. An investigation found that Surdis made the threat while an inmate at the Ulster County Jail.

A few days prior to the bomb threat at the supermarket, May 2, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office received a report an inmate at the Ulster County Jail tried to send a letter threatening specific acts of violence to a business in the Town of Ulster.

The letter was intercepted by corrections personnel prior to being mailed. Surdis is alleged to have written the letter.

Surdis, who has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1989, continues to be held without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 29.
