A 37-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the Hudson Valley. Some reports say the suspect is a young child who was defending his mother.

Near midnight on Friday, Monticello police responded to calls about a man who was stabbed near a home in the Evergreen Drive Housing Complex in the Village of Monticello.

Responding officers found Maximino Rosa Jr., of Monticello with multiple stab wounds.

He was transported from the scene by Mobile Medic Paramedics to a landing zone set up at the Monticello High School and then flown by helicopter to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries following emergency surgery.

Police believe the death was the result of an isolated domestic incident and there is no threat to the general public.

ABC News reports, Rosa Jr. was fatally stabbed by a 9-year-old boy who was defending his mother from the victim. Monticello Police did not comment on the report to Hudson Valley Post.

Monticello police are being assisted in the ongoing investigation by the Sullivan County District Attorney Office and the New York State Police BCI and FIU.

The investigation is ongoing and pending forensic and autopsy reports
