A Hudson Valley man was indicted on charges connecting him to the fatal shooting of an innocent recent college graduate.

In Westchester County Court, 26-year-old Rashi McClean, of Mount Vernon was charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and intimidating a victim or witness, all felonies.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, on August 8, 2011, Gloria Nartey was walking home in Mount Vernon with groceries when she was fatally shot in the back of the head.

McClean, an alleged gang member, was aiming for a man who had an ongoing conflict with Mclean and other gang members. McClean opened fire when he spotted the man standing in middle of the block.

Nartey, a recent college graduate from SUNY Plattsburgh and research scientist at Pepsi, was further up the sidewalk when she was shot in the back of the head and died instantly.

An intensive 5 year investigation from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department led to McClean being charged in connection with the murder.

McClean plead not guilty. He is due in court on June 8. He faces 15 year to life in prison if convicted.
