During a domestic dispute, a local man hit another person with his car. The victim suffered serious injuries.

On Sunday around 2:50 p.m., deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting that a vehicle hit a person in the Town of Rochester.

Upon arrival deputies determined that a domestic dispute had occurred, police say.

During the altercation, 47-year-old Ronald Coppersmith of Accord got into a car in a driveway while still engaged in the dispute with the victim.

The victim was stuck in the vehicle as Coppersmith allegedly accelerated.

The victim was hit by the car and suffered seriously injuries, including multiple leg fractures, police say. The unnamed victim was flown to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

Coppersmith was charged with second-degree assault, a felony. He was arraigned in Town of Marbletown Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 secured bond.
