Workers at a local hotel were taken by surprise after learning that the building was sold and would close by the end of the month.

Tricia Kendziera, the general manager of the Fishkill Ramada Inn, says there had been rumors of a sale for months and the staff knew the building was on the market, but they did not expect it would happen so fast.

The last day of business for the Route 9 hotel and conference center will be January 31. Reservations are being accepted on the Ramada Inn website for this month, but dates after that are listed as "unavailable."  The onsite restaurant will also shut down when the building closes. According to Kendziera, the Fishkill hotel complex employs anywhere between 50 and 60 full and part-time workers depending on the season. They will all be out of a job at the end of the month.

The new owners are expected to turn the existing building into a senior assisted living center. Dates for when the property will be renovated and eventually reopened are unknown.  The Ramada Inn is independently owned, but part of the Wyndham Hotel Group. We reached out to representatives from Wyndham, but they did not immediately reply to our request for comment. Wyndham also owns the Hawthorn Suites on Schuyler Boulevard in Fishkill. That property is reportedly not affected by the sale.

There are still events planned at the Ramada Inn that will go on as scheduled before the end of the month. This year's Wing Wars will be the last major event held at the hotel. The popular hot wing competition will take place on January 20.
