A Hudson Valley teenager has been drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft.

On Monday night, June 4th, Major League Baseball held their annual draft bringing new, young prospects to the big time. One of those young prospects is 17 year old Lineras “Lenny” Torres from Beacon high school.

Lenny, who wont turn 18 until October 2018, is a right handed pitcher and was the 41st draft pick by the Cleveland Indians. According to the Indians scouting report, Torres has a nice fast ball that can reach up to 90mph "but he is unable to consistently throw it at a high velocity."

Torres also can throw a nasty slider that "will get better with time and repetition" according to the report and he's also working on adding either a cutter or change-up to his rotation.

Now that Lenny has been drafted, it doesn't mean he will officially be signing on to play with the Indians right away. Back in November Lenny committed to playing baseball at St. John's University.

No word yet on what Lenny's official decision will be. Either way the Hudson Valley is proud of him!
